Sunday 26th April 2026: The Chasing St George’s Dragon Walk

Description:

We will meet at Finche Field Car Park, near to the Fox Pub in West Hoathly. We will walk down towards the Bluebell Railway (hopefully see a steam train or two), then down to the Lake (Weir Wood Reservoir) and up to the climbing area at High Rocks, then down into the valley and back up to West Hoathly (not to Gravetye as we did last year) where we will walk to the Missing Link Micro Brewery (closes at 6pm) for some drinks (and food if one wishes), before returning a slightly different way back to where we started.

Time:

2pm on Sunday 26th April. Please let us know if you are coming, as we would like to start as close to 2pm as possible.

Sunday 4th January 2026: The New Year Walk

Description:

A shorter walk to celebrate the New Year and burn off a few seasonal calories. We head up a gentle incline to Beddingham Hill, enjoy great views along the South Downs Way before returning via Blackcap Farm and Poverty Bottom. We can head to the Flying Fish for a drink at the end of the walk.

Sunday 12th April 2026: The 22nd Birthday Walk

The 22nd Birthday Walk will take place at 2pm on Sunday 12th April led by Andrew.

Description:

We start with a gentle walk along bank of the river Ouse to Southease station. Then we head over the bridge across the A26 followed by a steep climb up Itford Hill to Beddingham Hill. We finish the walk with a slow descent into South Heighton, with an option of a drink in the Flying Fish at the end of the walk.

Flat, then one prolonged steep climb, followed by a gradually falling incline.

Transport:

Car: Via A27/A26 or A259. Park in nearby side streets.
Bus: 12/13 buses along A259, alighting at Newhaven Town station, then a 10-minute walk to the starting point.
Train: To Newhaven Town station then a 10-minute walk to the starting point.

Sunday 22nd March 2026: The Sun is Rising Walk

The Sun is Rising Walk will take place at 2pm on Sunday 22nd March led by Gary.

Description:

The next walk, with hopefully good weather after a relatively dry week ahead, will be in Devil’s Dyke area. We head up steps carved into the slope, 1/3 the way up New Timber Hill, then along an undulating new path along the side of New Timber until we reach The Wildflower Cafe at Saddlescombe, where we can have tea/snack lunch &/or cake. The last 2/3 of the walk proceeds via a long medium slope up the side of Devil’s Dyke to the top, which we will walk around to then descend back down into Poynings.
